There’s always a particular energy to weddings that are out of town… I suppose it’s a holiday energy; one where it’s a little easier to forget yesterday’s utility bills or tomorrow’s chores… and to just enjoy the beautiful present.
Olivia and Jamie are from Christchurch, but made Furneaux Lodge up in Queen Charlotte Sound their destination. Accessible only by boat and surrounded by native bush, this was a magical location for a magical wedding… and one that all the dark clouds in the sky could not dampen. xx
Sometimes I get to know couples really well before their weddings… and sometimes you meet the couple for the first time on the big day. Liv and Jamie were in the latter camp… although as it turns out, we had barely a degree of separation with most of their guests. Oh New Zealand you tiny country!!!
Next to Furneaux Lodge sits No Road Inn, a boutique B&B that was hosting the girls as they got ready. That’s the beautiful Olivia, below-left.
Across the way, the boys had started to get ready… some faster than others haha!!! This is the lovely Jamie, below.
Olivia’s bridesmaids were gorgeous… having a good ol’ twirl before the wedding. 😀
These photos above document the last few minutes before the wedding ceremony… and how quickly things changed. The looming clouds decided to weigh anchor and within minutes were pouring down rain. But oh… it is hard to regret a bit of rain when your indoor location is a gorgeous, cosy and historic lodge. x
So… I didn’t mention this earlier, but these two were actually married twice on Saturday. 😀 Once, here, in the presence of fmaily and friends… but with their celebrant not registered, they had to hold an official one later. You’ll see that soon! x
I can totally understand why they wanted Pete officiating though… and the moment when he said “by the power vested in me by the internet…” totally brought the house down. 😀
Ohhh… massive respect to the guests for braving the cold for the family photos!
Ok… this next part I shall NEVER forget – what an amazing hour! To make their wedding official, Olivia and Jamie took a (proper) celebrant out on a boat, along with their bridal party… and also used that time to take a few portraits together.
Furs were courtesy of The Court Theatre… a mutual friend of ours, Pamela Jones, was head of wardrobe there for many years, and still designs and creates a lot of their costumes. Total treat when we discovered we were off to the same wedding… I mentioned we kept running into familiar faces on this day, right?! 😀
I love these ladies!!! x
The bridal party said goodbye to their celebrant… but had one last thing to do before returning to land. Shooting clay pigeons!! 😀
Legs a bit wobbly, we veered into the vibrant reception where all sorts of beautiful speeches awaited.
I am such a sucker for personal touches… and both the cake and flowers had been prepared by family. So special. x
Hehehe…. first dances. I am beginning to realise there are a few types of first dances out there… there are the closed eyes ones, the slow ones, the silly ones… and the ones where the couple just can’t stop grinning. 😀 And that enthusiasm totally spilled over into the rest of the dancing…
Such amazing guests… was a total blast shooting. 😀
Well…. I must leave it there, but a million bajillion congratulations to a gorgeous couple… Liv and Jamie, you guys put on an AMAZING day… just the start of the incredible future I know you’ll share. xx
