A trip up to Auckland over Easter weekend for Penny and Matthew’s wedding marked the end of an incredible summer season.
Penny and Matthew met a few years ago through performing. Matthew Harvey is an hilarious performance poet, while Penny Ashton is a well-known comedian and wedding celebrant (my husband and I had the joy of being married by her a few years ago!). These two pour their hearts and passion into everything they do, so I knew that their wedding day would be every inch Penny and Matthew: vibrant, heartfelt and hilarious. And boy it totally delivered. xx
Having grown up the daughter of a wedding photographer, and officiating a lot of weddings herself, Penny definitely knew how she wanted their wedding to feel. Bursting with colour!!
Gorgeous Penny, with hair and makeup by the fabulous Natalie Dent.
A morning video update from a very excited groom!
To know Penny is to totally fall in love with her… even though she was feeling a little crook on the day, her infectious laughter never stopped!
Soon it was time to head up the road to the Coatesville Settlers Hall. Penny, Matthew and their friends had been all hands to deck transforming this hall into a colourful wedding venue.. and it looked absolutely stunning. x
When two comedians get married, the celebrant is a very important choice. The fabulous Pinky Agnew came up from Wellington… and my gosh she was fantastic! I adore celebrants who can make a ceremony a big, personal celebration of the couple. xx
Matt’s first look… xx
With a guest list full of comedians, the poetry readings – written just for the couple too! – were a total joy.
Portraits were just a bonus for these two, so we just nipped around the property for five minutes or so. No directing required with these two… they beam with love at every opportunity. xx
Penny’s Mum and Dad. x
A few more portraits in the last ten minutes of daylight…
I think this one above is my absolute favourite. So happy guys!!!!! <3
If there’s one thing that actors and comedians get about weddings, it’s that you don’t have to be boring. Even the formal parts such as speeches can be personal and filled with laughter… and oh my gosh, they totally delivered.
Being two poets, Penny and Matthew set guests the challenge of writing limericks. First prize without a doubt went to Penny’s nephew who came out with an incredibly naughty one… it totally brought the house down. 😀
The next treat was an hilariously pitched duet between Penny and her dad. Oh my gosh, the whole place was screaming with laughter. Amazing. 😀
Soon it was time to pack away tables for the best part of all… the dancing.
Penny and Matthew… over the moon for you both. Your day was just amazing – hope every day to come will be just as happy and vibrant. All my love. xx
